The real identity of the mystery woman in British band Pulp’s song Common People seems to have been revealed.
Pulp’s Common People song’s opening lines are: “She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge. She studied sculpture at Saint Martin’s College, that’s where I caught her eye.”
A Greek newspaper claims the wife of the Greek finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, perfectly fits the description of Pulp’s mystery woman.
Danae Stratou, the wife of the minister, is Greek and she studied at St. Martin’s College of Art and Design in London from 1983 to 1988.
Varoufakis further fuelled the rumours in an interview with BBC, where referring to his wife, he said: “Well, I wouldn’t have known her back then. But I do know that she was the only Greek student of sculpture at St Martin’s College at that time.
“And, from personal experience, she is a very fascinating person.”
Meanwhile, the leader singer of the band, Jarvis Cocker, who attended the same college between 1988 to 1991 has not commented on the identity of the mystery woman.
Cocker reportedly took a course on film studies at the same college while on a break from the band.
No word from Stratou either as the identity of Cocker’s mystery woman remains hidden.
